The British Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (BritCham) is now in its second decade of establishment building on a British business presence that extends more than a hundred years.

Over those years, we have had the pleasure of welcoming the most influential politicians, business leaders, world news commentators, renowned experts in various fields and academicians as guests to our various forums. In 2008, we hosted more than one hundred events that provided broad platforms for business development amongst our members.

Working cooperatively with the British Embassy (UKTI) and the British Council, whose senior representatives sit on our Board of Management, BritCham is committed to developing a services infrastructure that supports all stages of business development right from their inception in Indonesia.

To our members and a wider business community, we represent an independent and reliable source of information on issues. This covers politics, current affairs, security, health, inside-track analysis from our business sector groups, advocacy, personal and social development. In addition, the Chamber provides tremendous media opportunities for promoting and advertising to a dynamic business community.

Although British in Name, our Britcham community is far from exclusively British. The integrity of the BritCham brand attracts members, sponsors and advertiser with roots from all over the globe-and most pleasingly, from our host country, Indonesia.

We look forward to many more decades of serving the interest of our members from the British, domestic and international business communities in Indonesia.

In recent times, BritCham has established itself as the most active foreign Chamber in Indonesia. We are acknowledged as a premium and diverse resource for businesses needing to better understand this unique market, developing businesses already established and for recognised brands that represent a wealth of business success.

Whether it is information, meetings, lobbying, advocacy, networks, information, socialising, niche business services or community endeavour, engagement with BritCham is essential for personal and business prosperity in Indonesia.

BritCham’s mission statement is: “to actively promote, encourage and assist the continuation and growth of trade and investment relations between Indonesia and Britain.”

BritCham’s principal objectives in achieving its mission are to:

Represent the interests, in Indonesia, of British business, particularly to Government and other key decision makers.

Keep the membership informed of economic and political developments.

Assist UK and Indonesian companies, especially SME’s, with market entry.

Promote the contribution being made by British business activities to the development of Indonesia.

As the non-government organisation that represents Britain in Indonesia, BritCham is an associate member of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and is attempting to forge stronger links with key Government ministries and departments. It is our aim to ensure that the interests of ensuring a continued strong business relationship between the UK and Indonesia are taken into account in the formulation of policy and legislation impacting on trade and investment. It was anticipated that our move to a Chamber of Commerce would strengthen our impact in this regard. The formation of a range of sector groups within the Chamber ensure that BritCham’s inputs are targeted and well advised.

BritCham has continued to publish the Guide to British Business in Indonesia, which has proved to be an invaluable aid both to newcomers in the market as well as to businesses already established in Indonesia.

BritCham’s vision for the future, is to further improve our delivery of professional and efficient services to our members as well as to those UK and Indonesian companies and individuals wishing to develop business between the two countries. To achieve this we have continued to implement a modest expansion programme to improve our resources, further develop our website, expand our range of market facilitation services, and investigate the establishment of a counterpart organisation in the UK.

This is an important time for BritCham as we continue to establish ourselves as a Chamber of Commerce. We therefore look forward to the support of those in the British and Indonesian business communities who have an interest, as we do, in nurturing the growth of the bilateral business relationship, particularly as the Indonesian economy slowly continues to recover from an economic crisis.
